The Sacred Power of Rest

May is a threshold month — the in-between of spring’s rising energy and summer’s full expression. It’s a time to pause, recalibrate, and remember that rest is not a luxury — it’s your birthright.

Your May 2025 Alignment

In a world that glorifies hustle, choosing rest can feel like rebellion. We’ve been conditioned to equate worth with output, to see stillness as laziness. But rest is not the absence of doing — it’s a radical act of self-respect.

When we rest, we reclaim our rhythms. We soothe an overstimulated nervous system. We soften the body’s armor and allow space for healing to unfold.

Modern science backs this up: research in somatics and trauma healing shows that spaciousness, breath, and down-regulation are essential for integration. We need time to metabolize the experiences life hands us — not just physically, but emotionally, spiritually, and energetically.

In many ancient traditions, rest is revered as a sacred state. Taoism suggests stillness is the gateway to wisdom. In Ayurveda, intentional rest (like yoga nidra) restores vital life force. In the feminine spiritual path, sacred rest is how we remember our cyclical, intuitive nature.

This month, I invite you to give yourself full permission to rest — not as a reward for productivity, but as a revolutionary return to wholeness.

“Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees… is by no means a waste of time.”
– John Lubbock

I would even go so far as to say it is the best use of time. Let this be your reminder that rest is generative. It’s where your truth gets loud enough to be heard again.

Why Not Try a Sacred Rest Ritual in May

Create a 10-minute rest ritual:

  • Turn off your phone.
  • Lie down with a folded blanket under your knees. If you can lie down in grass, all the better.
  • Place one hand on your heart, the other on your belly.
  • Breathe slowly. Let gravity hold you.
Even just 10 minutes a day can change your entire internal landscape.
